M. Mary John
& Sr. Mary Placid welcome German Ambassador Alex Weisshaupt
|
|
The first of a series of concerts
celebrating St. Scholastica’s Centennial was held at St.
Cecilia’s Hall at 6:30 p.m. of the same day, September 14. A
slide show, “Glimpses of St. Scholastica’s Over A Century”
entertained the guests as they entered the hall. Seen in the
front rows were the Archbishop of Manila, His Excellency Most
Rev. Gaudencio Rosales, D.D., the Abbot of San Beda, the
German Ambassador, the New Zealand Ambassador, Atty. Ricardo
Romulo, chairman of the SSC’s Board of Trustees, greeting
and being |
|
greeted by Mother General, Mother
Prioress Mary John Mananzan, Sister Mary Placid Abejo, dean
of the School of Music, among others.
|
All three concert numbers
were great favorites with the capacity audience. The
young PREDIS members (5 to 10 years old) were astounding
in their violin virtuosity, and the 5-year old right in
center front, was a special hit with everyone present.
Dom Benildo Maramaba, OSB,
played Brahms Piano Concerto #2 with unparalleled finesse
and aplomb that brought the house down as he struck his
last chord.
The chorus, Magnificat,
by J Rutter, was a grand performance by a beautiful
blending of male and female voices. The chorus class
of the College of Music was joined by some
Benedictine Sisters, alumnae, the SSC HS Glee Club, the
Ateneo College Glee Club, and the Manila Youth Symphony
Orchestra. Conducting was Ma. Lourdes V. Hermo.
