BOYS OF MOTHER GRATIA

Do you remember that there were boys in St. Scholastica in the kindergaten  level under Mother Gratia? Have you ever wondered where they are now and if they have any memories of their kindergarten days?

One of the highlights of our Grand Centennial Celebration on December 3, 2006, aside from the awarding of the 100 Oustanding Scholasticans  is a tribute to the lovable nun, Mother Gratia Aigner OSB, who taught girls and boys in kindergarten from 1931 to the 70s.

SSAFI will be giving recognition awards to the Boys of Mother Gratia who were privileged to have had a year or two of Scholastican education where they learned their basics of prayer and work … and play.

We’ve been searching for the Boys of Mother Gratia (BMG) and we’ve been able to track down over 60 of them so far. Last June 23, 2006, there was a get-together at Manila Golf Club where 21 of them were in attendance. The eldest BMG was 79 year old Evaristo Francisco (husband of Alegria Sanchez Francisco HS47), while the youngest BMG was 39 year old Marc Prats (nephew of Rocio, Tess and Gigi Prats).  The stories they shared triggered unforgettable memories of our kindergarten days. It was so heart warming to discover that the boys treasured their Scholastican experience. And, at the end of the evening, we felt that we had renewed our bond with the Boys of Mother Gratia—our long lost Scholastican brothers!

If you know any BMGs—a classmate, brother, cousin, nephew, husband, friend—please let them know about our search. Better still, give us their contact numbers if they are in Manila, or their email addresses if they are in the province or are residing abroad. We would be very happy if they can send us old pictures taken during their kindergarten days in St. Scholastica. We would like to include them in the Centennial Coffee Table Book –a project of SSAFI.

And of course, we would also like The Boys to come home on December 3, 2006 to receive their recognition award as Boys of Mother Gratia and celebrate with their Sister Scholasticans.
