SSC SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID I Academic & Merit Scholarships I Sports Scholarship I Financial Assistance I

 

Remaining committed to its thrust of Education for Justice and Social Transformation, the school offers academic scholarships, merit scholarships, sports scholarships, as well as financial assistance.

The qualified student enjoys the scholarship or financial assistance for the duration of her/his course (maximum of four (4) years only) unless terminated voluntarily by the student or by the school after due process due to failure to comply with one or more of the maintenance requirements.

Restrictions

A Financial Grant is awarded to eligible applicants seeking financial assistance and whose lower economic status has been verified by the Scholarship and Grants Committee.  This takes various forms:

a.      10 units discount on tuition fees
b.     
15 units discount on tuition fees
c.      
21 units discount on tuition fees
d.     
100% discount on tuition fees
e.     
100% discount on tuition fees and other fees (special or laboratory fees)
f.       100% discount on tuition fees and other fees plus living allowance (the living
      allowance varies depending on the applicant's financial need)

     
­  The student pays for the balance of the tuition and fees either in full or in
         installments.
     
­  All students pay the Registration and Miscellaneous fees (miscellaneous fee includes
         the Capital Development Fee, College Parents Association Fee, ID, X-ray and
         Insurance)

Qualifications

Those applicants who:

a.      have passed the SSC entrance test/admission requirements;

b.      have shown satisfactory performance in their senior year in High School (for college freshmen) or previous semester/s in his/her former school (for transferees);

c.       possess good character as attested to by the Principal/Dean, teacher/counselor; and

d.      have limited financial resources as reflected in the documents presented and as attested to by the Principal/Dean, teacher/counselor.

Note:  An applicant with a sibling currently enjoying or has enjoyed financial assistance in the past is automatically disqualified.

An applicant whose family's annual gross income exceeds PhP150,000.00 is normally not granted financial assistance, therefore, need not apply.

An applicant whose parents do not have fixed income or have no income at all should have a sponsor who can provide additional financial support.   Financial assistance from SSC may not be enough to pay for all the tuition and fees and other school-related expenses.

Application Procedure

Applicants follow the regular procedure for seeking admission to the College.  After having passed all admissions requirements of SSC, the applicant secures an application form from the Registrar and Grants Office.

A.      fill-up the application form issued by the Registrar and Grants Office and submit it together with the following:

1.      For those whose parents are employed, submit

a.      photocopy of the latest Income Tax Return (ITR) duly stamped by the BIR

b.   Certificate of Employment and Compensation (CEC)

b.      Residence Certificate of parent/s

c.       latest payslip of parents (15th and 30th of the month)

2.      For those whose parents have employment overseas, no employment, or no fixed income, submit the following:

a.      Revenue Memorandum Circular No. 1-98

b.      Certification from the BIR

c.       Certification from the municipality/city mayor

d.       Affidavit of Exemption from Filing Income Tax Return

3.      A paragraph on each of the following

a.        Brief description of yourself - your strengths and weaknesses, reason for 
 choosing your course, plans for the future

b.      Reason/s for applying for financial assistance

c.       How can you be of service to SSC and society, especially after College?

d.        How can you support the Scholarships and Grants Program of SSC now and in
 the future?

4.      Letter of Recommendation (use SSC form) signed by the High School Principal, Teacher/Adviser and Counselor attesting to the financial needs of the family

5.      Photocopy of report card (for college freshman)/transcript of records (for transferees/old students)

6.      Photocopy of report card/s of sibling/s

7.      Location map of residence

B.      Come for an interview with the parent or guardian on a date to be arranged with the Registrar and Grants Office. 

An unannounced home visitation may be conducted to secure more information about the applicant.

Investigation of the grantee's lifestyle will be conducted from time to time.

Note: Awarding of financial grants depends upon the availability of funds and/or slots.  Therefore, applicants are processed on a FIRST-COME-FIRST-SERVED basis.  Applicants with incomplete documents will be set aside until all requirements have been submitted. 

Status of Application

The applicant inquires from the Registrar and Grants Office the status of application for financial assistance.  A status letter signed by the School President will be given to the grantee a few weeks after enrollment.

Maintenance Requirements

A financial grantee may apply for the renewal of the grant every semester for the length of a 4-year undergraduate course provided s/he

a.      maintains an average of B- or CQPA of a 2.70 or higher with no F (failing) or W    
      (withdrawal) grade in any subject;

b.      conforms satisfactorily to the rules and regulations of the School.

c.       renders the required number of service hours within the semester.  S/He is expected to receive a favorable evaluation from the Department/Office s/he has been assigned to.  (The grantee arranges his/her work schedule with the Office/Unit Head;

Note:  A grantee who fails to complete the required service hours within the semester may be placed on probationary status the following semester or will no longer be qualified to apply for the renewal of the grant.

A grantee whose CQPA is 3.5 or higher may be exempted from the service hour requirement.

Application for Renewal of Grant

A financial grantee may apply for renewal of her/his grant before the end of the first (or second) semester if s/he still needs financial assistance.   S/he will be required to submit the following:

a.      accomplished application form for renewal of grant (to be secured from the Registrar and Grants Office)

b.      photocopy of latest transcript of records

c.       photocopy of class cards with final grades of the current semester

d.      photocopy of parents' latest Income Tax Return (ITR) (only the start of every school year)

e.  two latest pay slip of parents (15th and 30th of the month)

f.   location map (if residence had changed)

Restrictions

A financial grantee is not allowed any of the following:

a.      overloading, dropping, cross-enrolling or summer load (unless required by the course/recommended by the Chair/Registrar)

b.      shifting major field of concentration

c.       shifting to a totally new course

d.      double major

e.      tutorial classes

Exceptional cases may be allowed upon the recommendation of the Academic Dean or a Department Chairperson and with the approval of the Scholarships and Grants Committee.  The grantee is expected to submit a written request for proper action and documentation.  In some cases, the grantee shoulders the additional expenses related to such restriction.

Shifting, dropping/adding a subject, cross-enrollment without approval is valid ground for termination of the financial assistance.

Scholars/grantees are expected to enroll every semester except for valid reasons: health problems as certified by the school physician or serious personal problems which may affect the grantee's academic performance during the semester/school year.  

SSC reserves the right to modify, amend, or withdraw any amount of scholarship, tuition grant/ discount from students who fail to meet the conditions of the particular award.  SSC makes no promise of scholarship to any student or individual.
