Lay Apostolate (LA) Program

1.      The Lay Apostolate Program is a ten (1O)-unit program designed to concretize the school's thrust of "Education for Justice and Social Transformation".  However, LA1 & LA2 has been designed to meet the requirements of Commission on Higher Education (CHED) that National Service Training Program (NSTP) should be integrated in the curriculum.  Both subjects therefore are now a three (3)-unit program for the First Year, and LA3 & LA4 (2 units each for Second Year).  More on the Lay Apostolate Program of the school.

2.      Students must comply with the LA requirements.

a.      Attendance:
- NSTP / LA1 & 2 (no absence in actual activities)
- LA3 and LA4 (no absence in actual services, orientation, processing and synthesis
  sessions)

Students are encouraged to meet the required number of meetings.  A student, who absents her/himself from the LA, should inform the coordinator so a make-up activity can be arranged.  However, if there are several absences and no effort was made to do same make-up work, the students will have to repeat the course the following semester.

3.   In encouraging the students to participate in the activities of the school, it is suggested that:

      a.  Participants of school activities that are apostolic* in nature should be given extra
credit in their fulfillment of the Lay Apostolate Program.

      *     Apostolic activities are those with service and Christian faith orientations which can
further the student's education and awareness of the poor, deprived and the
oppressed.  Example: Education major students can teach in the Night Secondary
            School of SSC.

      b.  A regular request form is made available to the students for the accreditation of
activities that are apostolic in nature.

      c.  Students can also align their activities with the service orientation of the Social
Action Center (SAC) which addresses itself to two basic tasks namely:

1)      Integration of student's co-curricular programs and projects into productive development oriented concerns; and

2)      Development of community-related organization project to in by the College, as an institution and by individual students and teachers or related groups.

Practicum

1.      Practicum is a credited course which aims to expose students to actual work experience in their respective specialized fields.

2.      Preferably, it must be completed after the summer following the student's junior year or within the period prescribed in the academic program the student is majoring in.

3.      Practicum is normally handled by the Department Chair or her/his representative who assists in fielding students in establishments and institutions for work and monitors their progress at work.

Synthesis

1.      The Synthesis course consists of integrating Theology sessions and a retreat, coordinated with the Theology Department and Campus Ministry Office. It is required of all seniors and/or graduating students.

2.      Certification of its completion is taken from the Office of the College Dean.

Retreats/Recollections

Students from first to fourth year undergo an annual recollection or retreat
