The ideal we are working towards is for every student to work at her own pace, in every subject area without limitations of grade levels. However, until such a time as we can completely remove grade levels, we still have to contend with grade level structures. Policies on longer residence consider both pace and quality of work. Cut-off Points and Policies on Longer Residence, Probationary and Transfer1. Cut-off Points - All subject areas have set cut-off points, one for the fast/gifted students and another for the students in the regular classes. Even slow students must meet cutoff points for regular classes. 2. Policy on Ratings Below 75% - A rating of 70-74%, may appear on the card and would require reteaching. The rating for the second cycle should be on the actual grade earned by the student the second time. We do not report averages. 3. Probationary Status - A child is put on probation if she does not reach the cut-off points in two (2) academic areas or if she gets an average of 74% and below or a combination of these conditions in two (2) academic areas. In summary, a child is put on probation under any of the following conditions: a) one level behind in two subject areas b) an average of 74% and below in two areas c) one level behind in one subject and an average of 74% and below in another area. 4. Longer Residence - Longer Residence means staying one more year in the same grade level and continuing school work from where the student left off.
A.
A
child shall be put on longer residence if she does not make it to the cut-off
points in three (3)
academic areas or if her average performance is 74% and below in three (3) academic areas

year. a) one level behind in one subject area - an average of74% and below in two areas b) one level behind in two subject areas - an average of74% and below in one area c) one level behind in three subject areas d) an average of 74% and below in three areas
B. A child on probationary status who fails to reach the cut-off points
or gets an average of 74% and below in the
same subject for the next year is placed on longer residence or recommended for
transfer even if she fails to reach the cut-off points or if she gets an average of 74% and
below ONLY in one (I) or two (2) subjects. 5. Transfer - a) Student with emotional problems which the school cannot handle will be recommended for transfer. b) Students who fail in the same subject for the next year may be recommended for transfer. 6. Academic Clearance - By the end of Grade Four, all students should satisfactorily meet the conditions for promotion to the next grade. That is, students should meet both pace and quality of work. 7. Academic Clearance for Grade Six - Candidates for graduation should meet the following minimum requirements:
a) Academics -
8. The school reserves the right to make the final decision in all cases, that is, recommended students for probation, longer residence, or for transfer after thorough study and deliberation. |
