Arts and
Sciences | MA in Special Education
General Description
The Master of Arts in
Special Education provides opportunities for educators to experience
professional and personal growth and development through a
systematic approach to the description, assessment and planning of
programs for exceptional children.
The Program has a core of
twelve (12) units in the foundation subjects, eighteen (18) units
for the major subjects including field practice, six (6) units of
electives and six (6) units for thesis writing. During the
last semester of the program, the student prepares for a final
assessment of growth that has taken place during the program of
study. A comprehensive examination that integrates all
significant learning experiences has to be taken followed by an oral
presentation and defense of a completed thesis.
Objectives
The MA in Special Education aims to help
educators:
-
Recognize the
physiological, social, psychological and environmental factors that
help shape the development of the special child;
-
Provide the special
environment for the special child by designing appropriate programs
of study and evaluation tools that will shape their development and
their role in society;
-
Apply a repertoire
of knowledge and skills in conducting educational research that can
further tap the full potentials of special children; and
-
Empower the special
learner to become a productive and self-reliant member of society.
