Guidelines for Emergency Situations

(Know more about the school's public safety measures)

1.   Fire - Evacuation of the building should be done on a case-tocase basis depending on the area, intensity and extent of the fire.  In a fire drill however, everybody will have to move out of the building to the evacuation areas through the designated exit points.

a.  WARNING SIGNAL - WAIL (SLOW, MODULATED SIREN)

n    Do not close the windows. Windows in the rooms containing LPG tanks and chemical substances should be opened. LPG tanks and chemical containers should be kept tightly closed.

n    Turn off all power switches and close the rooms before evacuating the building.

n   Line up and prepare to leave the building by two's when the evacuation signal is given.

b.  EVACUATION SIGNAL - YELP (FAST, MODULATED SIREN)

n    as in all evacuation procedures, careful attention to orderly and quick movement should be observed.

n    Upon reaching the evacuation area, subject teachers should carefully count the number of students in the class. After being counted, the student should sit down.

n    Uncooperative students will be reported to the CSA for disciplinary action.

2.  Earthquake

a.  WARNING SIGNAL - TREMOR

n   when the tremor occurs, the following should be done:

               1)  stay in your area
               2)  turn off electrical power; shut off gas supply
               3)  stay away from harmful chemicals; if you cannot secure them, secure yourself
               4)  hide under tables or beneath strong supports within the building

n wait for evacuation signal

b.   EVACUATION SIGNAL --- WHEN THE TREMOR STOPS OR WHEN THE EVACUATION  SIGNAL IS GIVEN. (ALTERNATIVES: bells or voice commands)

n  orderly, safe and quick movement is the key to successful evacuation.

n    line up by twos and immediately exit to the grounds using the areas that are still safe to pass.

n    upon reaching the grounds, students should be properly accounted for. In case of strong aftershocks, everybody should stay close to the ground (e.g. sit down).

      c.  EVACUATION AREAS:

           1.  Main Area: SSC Grounds (field area)
           2.  Secondary Areas: Pergola and parking lot
           3.  People in the gym should proceed to the field area
           4.  People in adjacent rooms, buildings or convenient exit points should go to these
areas first. They should wait for instructions from the authorities concerned as
                what to do after this.
