The recent typhoon Reming has really left worst damages in affected areas of Bicol region, especially in the province of Albay.  Some lost their loved ones, homes and their means of livelihood.

On December 9, 2006, eight days after the devastation, the SSC Social Action Center (SAC) team visited the town of Guinobatan and City of Legazpi for a relief operation.   Relief goods were dropped at St. Agnes Academy and Divine Word College  for distribution to Bigaa and Sto. Domingo

parishes. This was followed by a second visit last December 18, 2006, which benefited sixteen (16) SSC personnel whose families were directly affected by the calamity, to the Federation of Baao Women in Camarines Sur, Assumption Parish of Guinobatan, and to dropping centers of Legazpi specifically Divine Word College and Redemptorists of Cogon.

The relief effort was made possible through the help of SSC’s academic community (faculty, students, staff, personnel and alumnae), its sister women schools from the Consortium of Women Colleges – Social Action Committee, the Missionary Benedictine Sisters Priory House Community, business sector like Cargo House, Inc. and some private individuals.

The entire Scholastican community would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to all kind-hearted people who unselfishly made an immediate response to the urgent call to

share any material or monetary assistance for the victims of Reming.   However, the combined efforts exerted by the Local Government units, Church sector and private individuals are still not enough given the extent of the damages and the needs of the people that require immediate attention.

In this regard, SSC-SAC, together with a medical group of alumnae from St. Agnes Academy, its sister school, and Cargo House, Inc., will conduct a Medical-Dental Mission and Relief Operation for Guinobatan, Albay victims on February 25, 2007.  Any extended generosity will be greatly appreciated.

For donations and further inquiry about the Medical-Dental Mission, please visit St. Scholastica’s College, Manila at 2560 Leon Guinto Street, Malate, Manila or call the office at 524-7686 local 223 or 224.
