Last January 1-5, 2007, fifteen students from the Environmental Education High School Year IV class, along with eight chaperones, went on an international field trip to Macau, China and Hongkong.

The students and faculty relished the getaway experience of cold weather, shopping spree, and exposure to different cultures.

VIEW THE ENTIRE TRIP IN PICTURES:

Arrival at the Macau airport.  The cold air and bright city lights in Macau greeted the group as they stepped off the plane and boarded the bus.  The tourists witnessed the city by night – a little like Las Vegas with glittering lights of casinos and busy nightlife.  The streets are delightfully clean and surprisingly not crowded with people.

The group's first meal at Macau's McDonald's - a healthy meal of corn, milk, yogurt and salad.

The tourists turned in for the night at the Beverly Plaza Hotel, a lovely four-star accommodation.

The following morning, the troop had their morning breakfast buffet of Chinese cuisine at the hotel overlooking Kum Lam Statue, an enormous bronze-tinted statue of the Goddess of Mercy on the bay of Macau.

The landmark is a famous tourist site with underground museum and a wonderful view of the harbor.

Visiting Our Lady of Fatima, a Catholic church in Macau located on Pinha hill.  From the spot, one could see a breathtaking panoramic view of the city.

The group also visited a Chinese Buddhist temple.

The A-MA temple where they observed and learned more about the religion and culture of the Chinese people.  Rituals, symbols, incense and statues filled the place.

Buffet lunch was served at the Golden Dragon Hotel.

Inside the Macau Museum.  The structure was a former Portuguese fort that later on became a museum, a popular tourist attraction especially when China reclaimed all its provinces.

St. Paul Church ruins were a sight to behold.  When the Church was burned only the front stone structure remained to the present day.

The day ended at Fisherman’s Wharf, a known theme park in Macau dubbed as “Asia’s Vegas.”

Visiting Macau Tower

Inside the Macau Tower.  At the viewing deck of the 58th floor; seeing through glass windows the magnificent view of the city.

Still inside the Macau Tower.  Feeling on top of the world.  Students and faculty line up to take pictures.

The sky walking experience beginning at the 61st floor of Macau Tower.  Students still in their jumpsuits took time to pose with their coach.  Followed by the thrilling and breathtaking experience of sky walking.

Crossing the border, the troop's next stop was mainland China.  Stepping first into Zhuhai, a province of China and known to many as a shopping paradise.  The group ate dinner on a floating house at the New Yuan Ming Garden theme park.  While savoring the beauty of the city, the tour guide oriented the students about the different provinces, dialects and cultures in mainland China.

The last leg of the trip for that day was seeing a Chinese cultural show showcasing the development of the Chinese Dynasties' Golden Age.  It was a magnificent display of talent, acrobatics, costumes and designs.

On board the Turbo Jet Ferry going to one of the most well-known cities in the world, Hongkong.

Setting foot on the avenue of stars and seeing the handprints of some of the famous Chinese Hollywood artists like Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Bruce Lee.

At the JC Jewelry Factory in Hongkong owned by Jackie Chan.  The tourists were able to buy a few pieces of jewelry as souvenirs.

Visiting Repulse Bay, where all kinds of Buddha images can be found.  People would often go to the images to touch them believing that their wishes for money, long life, babies or even love will be granted.

After another quick buffet lunch at the Ramada Kowloon Hotel, the group's went to the highlight of the trip - Disneyland!  The guests relished the parade and rides like the carousel and indoor roller coasters.  The fireworks display was magnificent.
