The College faculty during the curtain call

This year’s faculty concert dubbed as “Jammin in College @ 100” was held last February 13, 2007 at the St. Cecilia’s Hall.  For the first time in this annual event of the Commerce Department, the faculty members were joined by the other departments, office and general services personnel and non-teaching staff.

The event was organized by faculty staff and JAM third and fourth year students headed by History-Sociology professor Ms. Rita Cucio; JAM members Ms. Vernardine Baritua and Ms. Djoanne Dela Cruz.  The program was divided into five (5) eras headed by P.E. teachers Ms. Mary Jane Gozo, Ms. Ellen Carbon, Mr. Choi Quesada, Ms. Socorro Cordova and Ms. Encar Deveraturda.

SSC President Sr. Angelica Leviste, OSB graced the occasion with her presence and gave the opening remarks.  Incoming JAM Outreach Liaison Officer Ms. Jeizel Aguila led the solemn opening prayer.  This was followed by the faculty performance of “One Way Jesus”, a dance number of praise to God.

Performances from the 1910-1940’s era were composed of group and individual singing and dance numbers of classic and well loved songs like “Sa Kabukiran”, “Sa Aking Bayan”, “Pamaypay ng Maynila”, “Sunduan”, and “Polka Bal”.   The 1950-1960’s brought hits of Marilyn Monroe, Platters, Paul Anka, Neil Sedaka, and Beatles.  Songs like “Great Pretender”, “Twilight Time”, “My Prayer”, “Only You”, “Breaking Up is Hard to Do”, “Twist and Shout”, “Sugar Sugar”, “Baby Love”, “Buttercup”, “Help”, “All my Loving”, “I Saw her Standing”, and “Till There was You” saw the  audience go down memory lane.

The 1970’s era group brought the house down with live performances of faculty singing and dancing to the tune of “Katawan” made famous by Hagibis, “Tukso”, “Awitin Mo at Isasayaw Ko”, and “Blue Jeans”, which has the most number of participants representing professors and staff from the Commerce, Arts and Sciences, Accounting, Literature, Guidance and other departments.

Famous songs like “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”, “Karma Camelion”, “Material Girl”, “Proud Mary”, and “Beat It” from the 1980-1995 era displayed the performers’ stint in imitating their famous counterparts like Cyndi Lauper, Boy George, Madonna, Tina Turner and Michael Jackson.

The 1996 to present era showed the professors’ romantic side as they sang their hearts away in pairs.  To the delight of the students, the professors serenaded their partners with songs like “Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang”, “I Finally Found Someone”, “Hanggang Ngayon”, and “Let the Love Begin”.  This was followed by upbeat dance numbers like “Sway”, “Dale Candela”, “Bebot” and "Masqeunada".

It was a day worth remembering taking into consideration that it had, for the first time, the most number of participants coming not only from the teaching personnel but from the office and non-teaching staff as well.

Kudos to the organizers and performers of this year’s Faculty Concert.  Everyone is looking forward to another exciting and electrifying JAMMIN with faculty next year.
