NEWS ARCHIVES: SY 2004-2005 | SY 2005-2006 | SY 2006-2007 Mass Comm seniors probed different media issues in Obra Kulasa 2007

The Obra Kulasa is a series of public fora that highlights the research findings of the seniors in their thesis works. Now on its third year, the theme for this year’s Obra Kulasa is Inquiries into the Practice of Media and Communication. The plenary session on the 19th introduced the candidates for best thesis, both in Plan A (Paper thesis) and Plan B (Production Thesis). The criteria for judging the Best Class Presentation was also conferred to the seniors. The Advertising Class, with the theme: Lak-AD tayo: Ang Malaking Katotohanan sa Likod ng Mundo ng Advertising, showed different advertising perspectives on the second day, February 20, 2007. The following day, February 21, 2007, the Print Journalism Class presented their Obra with the theme: In the Driver’s Seat, Gearing Media through Social Awareness and Transformation. Moreover, the Development Communication Class presented on February 22, 2007 with the theme Re-Construction on the Process that aims to reconstruct the preconceived notions of womanhood and other social issues. Lastly, the Broadcast Journalism Class had their presentation on February 23, 2007 with the theme that coincides with The Matrix – Media: Web of Illusions – that aims to present the illusions created by the media to mask reality. The Closing/Send-off was moved to February 26, 2007 from February 24. The Development Communication and Print Journalism bagged the award for Best Class Presentation while Ms. Princess Asuncion, a Development Journalism Minor, was hailed Senior of the Year of Class 2007. The Best Paper Thesis was the thesis study on the News Consumption of Mass Communication students made by Ms. Arcelley Martinsen, Ms. Wendy Alcayde, and Ms. Kaye Encinares from the Broadcast Journalism class. On the other hand, the Best Production Thesis was awarded to Ms. Vanessa Marquez, Ms. Karen Joy Giron, Ms. Rachel Guico, and Ms. Issa Magnawa, Development Communication Minors, for their study on the inter-faith dialogue between the Muslims and the Catholics. Pioneered in the year 2005, the Obra Kulasa serves as the Major Comprehensive Examinations of the Mass Communication graduating students.
