The Mass Communication Department of St. Scholastica’s College gave tribute to the invaluable contributions of women in shaping the field of mass media last March 5, 2007 at St. Cecilia’s Hall.

Named after Hildegard of Bingen, a 12th century Benedictine nun, who was an embodiment of an empowered woman during the time when women’s roles were unrecognized, the Hildegard Awards for Women in Media and Communication is given to pay tribute to professionals and change agents who contributed and created innovations in their respective fields.

The recipients of this year’s award were feminist writer in Philippine literature and radio drama, Dr. Genoveva Edroza-Matute; Mother of Development Communication in Asia, Dr. Nora Cruz Quebral; Batibot Executive Director, Professor Felicisima “Feny” de los Angeles-Bautista; and women-centered television network QTV Channel 11.

The awardees received trophies designed by the late feminist Elsie “Inday” Cadapan, and recast by the artist Frederic Caedo.

The niece of Dr. Edroza-Matute came to receive the award.  Dr. Quebral and Prof. Bautista interacted with the students and guests during the open forum shortly after the awarding ceremony and customary speeches.

Prof. Johnathan Rondina, Mass Communication Department Chairperson, closed the program with an inspirational message about youth and media.  Prof. Rondina cited the present efforts of the senior Mass Communication students as a hopeful portent of the future of media in the country.

The celebration ended with a small dinner at the SSC's Social Hall.
