Cyrilla/Cyrillo Day

On its 100 years of existence, the Missionary Benedictine Sisters of St. Scholastica’s Priory, Manila have recognized four “Manangs” for having faithfully served the various communities of the Priory in the Philippines for the past 50-58 years during the Cyrilla/Cyrillo Day held last September 17, 2006 at the Sr. Caridad Barrion Hall of St. Scholastica’s College, Manila..  Likewise, the Sisters paid tribute to those who served the different communities for twenty years or more.  Cyrilla is the faithful helper of St. Benedict during his studies in Rome.   

In a simple but poignant program, the Manangs and one Manong were given a Certificate of Recognition, cash gift, centennial watch and St. Benedict medals.  The sixteen (16) awardees were: Gloria “Manang Goye” Dagalea Jacuk (21 years of service); Juana “Manang Juaning” Magcamit Sacconi (21 years); Priscilla Cacam (22 years); Veronica Lobo (22 years); Beatrice “Manang Bating” Dagalea Sturgess (24 years); Sylvia “Melba” dela Cruz-Vermillo (25 years); Trinidad “Manang Trining” Malabed (25 years); Sergio Guives (26 years); Tomasa “Manang Tom” Pile (27 years); Cresencia “Manang Celing” Teves (35 years); Shirley “Manang Shirley” Barao (43 years); Basilisa “Manang Basing” Andes (50 years); Encarnacion “Manang Cion” Esta (53 years); Estela “Manang Telay” Clamosa (56 years); and Celerina “Tiyay” Cerro (58 years). 

The Manangs and Manong were honored on this special day for their untiring service to the sisters in carrying out their mission in various assignments such as taking care of the elderly and sick sisters, assisting the boarders, helping in the kitchen, doing the laundry, tending the garden, taking care of the pets and the like.  They were assigned in different communities in Baguio, Carigara, Bacolor, Legaspi, Maasin, Manila, Ormoc, Taal, Tabunok, Tacloban and the Priory House.  Three of the awardees came all the way from Australia, while three were not able to make it to the awarding.
