The Benedictine Sisters Priory Manila celebrated two important activities on September 14, 2006.  The first activity commemorated the 100 year foundation of the Benedictine Sisters of Tutzing in the Philippines, which was followed by the inauguration and blessing of the Priory Archives at the Subiaco House along Vito Cruz.

For more than a year, the archives went through a process of construction evaluation under the able eye of Architect Augusto Villalon.  The express wish of the

Sisters was to retain the old charm of Subiaco but overhaul it for archival/museum use.  Another important aspect of the reconstruction of Subiaco was the need for fund raising.  Dr. Angelita Reyes, an alumna, gave her full support to launch and work actively for the fundraising, which would finance the archives/museum reconstruction at Subiaco.

The last few weeks to September 14 were intense in activity and preparation.  The debris had to be cleared; the garden had to be beautified; the exhibits were to be prepared and mounted.  Ms. Teresa Custodio, archives and museum curator, checked and cross checked information necessary for the exhibit.  Ms. Custodio personally supervised the mounting of the exhibits.  Architect Villalon unveiled the architectural changes of Subiaco.  Mr. Nicanor Blancada cleaned and finished the Subiaco garden with plant donations from the Marikina Convent.

On September 14, 2006 at 11:15 in the morning, the Priory and SSC communities headed to Subiaco to witness the formal opening and blessing of the archives/museum.  The program, which was led by Mother Mary John, began with a memorare prayer by Dr. Angelita Reyes in recognition of benefactors and friends who supported the fundraising project.  Gracing the occasion with their presence were former President and alumna Corazon C. Aquino, The Board of Trustees members Atty. Ricardo Romulo and Mr. and Mrs. Lito Sandejas, alumnae, students, parents, friends and guests.

The blessing and inauguration is the initial step of the archives/museum as repository of the Manila Priory’s mission history in the Philippines as it prepares itself for the next 100 challenging years for the Benedictine Sisters.
