Mag-Bolahan Tayo!
Posted: Thursday May 31, 2007 03:37 PM

The SSC Centennial Committee (CC), in partnership with the Institutional Sports Committee (ISC), successfully held the much-awaited “Mag-Bolahan Tayo!” on Saturday, September 16, 2006 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

A brainchild of SSC-CC Chair Louie Agnir-Paraan during the Centennial planning workshop in October 2004, the “Mag-Bolahan Tayo!” was initially conceived to be a centennial fundraiser featuring celebrities and professional athletes in a friendly exhibition match.  Nearly two years later, the dream saw fruition in an exhibition match between two professional basketball teams --- Purefoods and Alaska--- and the participation of such high-profile sponsors as the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and ADIDAS Philippines, as well as the College Class of 1994 via its representative Odette Velarde, former Assistant to the Dean of Student Affairs and now Assistant Manager for Marketing Communication at ADIDAS.

Such participation was made possible through the efforts of ISC Coordinator and SSC-CC core member Vivian Manila, who bravely took on the challenge of organizing and overseeing the operations of “Mag-Bolahan Tayo!”  At the same time, an ISC brainchild --- the President’s Centennial Cup (PCC)--- provided the spark that lit up the blazing blue Scholastican flame at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum that memorable Saturday morning in September.

To spice up the program and ensure greater participation from the SSC community, the SSC-CC and ISC decided to hold the semi-finals basketball game of the President’s Centennial Cup as an “opening act” for “Mag-Bolahan Tayo!”.   ISC further conceived of an additional feature for the PCC--- the Cheerleading Competition, and suggested its holding after the PCC game and immediately before “Mag-Bolahan Tayo!”

It was thus that by involving all personnel, the morning’s events succeeded in realizing two major objectives of the year-long centennial celebrations: to bring the entire SSC community together in celebration and to instill in every heart a grateful pride in belonging to the SSC community.

And what a celebration it was!

First:  It was a beautiful day.  The sun was out, and the day was nestled between Priory Centennial events; as such, it was recipient of all the blessings and goodwill heaped upon the community.

Second: Our beloved Sisters, administrators, faculty, parents, students and personnel all came.  Led by SSC President S. M.Angelica Leviste, OSB, Vice-President S. Mary Vincent Feliciano, OSB, HRD Director S. Rebecca Maglalang,

OSB, Unit Heads S. Michaela Manalang, OSB and Ms. Adelaida Villegas, and School Deans Dr. Remedios Ching and Mrs. Ester Ledesma, the community came in vibrant colors of Red (College), Blue (High School), Violet (Grade School), and Yellow (General Services Personnel).  They jumped, twirled, cartwheeled and screamed themselves hoarse.  In the end, the Blue team won both pre-events: the basketball game and the cheerleading competition.

Third: the Purefoods and Alaska teams delivered!  From the moment they appeared, the SSC community was electrified.  Did anyone keep score?  Or was everyone happy just watching those local Adonises run around the hardcourt?

It was truly a wonderful day for St. Scho.  Indeed, all who came and saw were conquered --- by the indomitable, unquenchable Scholastican spirit that made those coliseum walls “ring with accents bright” in salute to St. Scho and one hundred years of being God’s delight.

Ut in Omnibus Glorificetur Deus!
