The
Grade School unit of St. Scholastica’s College, Manila celebrated the
Science Week from September 25-29, 2006 with the theme “Moving Towards a
Sustainable and Ecologically-Sound Community.” The topic was
inspired by this school year’s institutional theme focus, which is “Care
for Mother Earth”.
Some
of the featured highlights of the Science Week were the Prep’s
interaction with pets such as love birds, a puppy and an iguana.
Grades
1 to 3 sponsored lectures and games about health and proper nutrition at
a special playground
set-up by Sustagen’s staff,
which lasted for one-and-a-half days at the High School Building. Grades
3 to 6 had a quiz bee adopting Battle of the Books’ mechanics at the Sr.
Kuniberta Hall. Prep to Grade 5 held an Eco Art Contest.
The
students also had the chance to view Eco-Art Exhibits at the Art Room, as
well as Science projects at the Primary Science Laboratory and to visit
the Scholastic Book sale under the High School building. All activities
were opened to parents.
The
Science Club members, together with their moderators, made flower vases,
bracelets, necklaces and photo frames made from recycled old magazines,
newspapers and telephone directories.
