The High School Junior Batch of 2006-2007 underwent a startling transformation after they had successfully completed the workshop on “Self-Motivation, Personal Effectiveness and Team-building” held last September 23 and 24, 2006.   One of the main objectives of the workshop, the theme of which was entitled “One-Chain Mindset”, was to foster unity and camaraderie among the students of this year’s junior batch aside from inculcating values and good work ethics and providing the students a respite from their studies.

The two-day workshop was a project of Batch Level Representative Crystal Anne Francisco and the class presidents and was sponsored by the Transnational Diversified Group of Companies (TDG) through the parent officers representing the third-year level of the High School Parents Association (HSPA).

Mr. Ricky Garcia served as Chief Facilitator.  He is an alumnus of San Beda College and a professional consultant, learning facilitator, and an organization consultant. He had conducted team-building seminars for schools and private companies such as Meralco, Philippine Daily Inquirer, among others.  Aside from his own team of trainers, Mr. Garcia was assisted by Scholastican alumnae the majority of whom now occupy managerial and supervisory positions in their respective companies comprising TDG. The Scholastican alumnae and their colleagues are all certified trainers of the Stephen Covey’s Seven Habits for Effective People Program.  They had all agreed to share their experiences.

Scholastican alumnae and their colleagues are all certified trainers of the Stephen Covey’s Seven Habits for Effective People Program.  They had all agreed to share their experiences with the junior students as part of their commitment to join in a worthwhile activity during the school’s centennial year.   The “Kulasa” facilitators included: Ma. Concepcion Germono, Florence Ursua, Wilhelmina Garay, Ma. Jisette Espinosa, Joanne Lazareto, Hazel Jiloca-Polvorido, and April Rouzhelle Jiloca (an SSC HRM faculty member).  Another TDG manager who participated as facilitator was Jan Asuncion.

With the skilful handling of the workshop facilitators, the junior students went through fun-filled and energetic activities which showcased their talents individually and as a team.  One of the first activities was the Levelling of Expectations wherein the class presented their vision and expectations of the workshop as well as what their class would want to happen (their wish list).  Another activity was for a mixed group of students to form a group and formulate their own mission/vision as individual students and as a batch which was highlighted by a presentation.

Probably, the most exciting activity was the “Amazing Race” where the teams made up of mixed students from the various sections competed in several contests.   One contest involved preparing paper trophies which showed the ingenuity of the students.  Another contest was the “Spider Web” where the individual members of the team are helped by the other team members to go through the web.  The third contest was “Stepping Stones” where the individual team members walked on shaky stone slabs/ pieces and crossed over while trying to maintain their balance.  The emphasis in these contests was teamwork and reliance on one another to complete the contest.  The team with the fastest time won the race.

In terms of class participation/ attendance, Class Assertiveness was given first prize while Class Loyalty and Class Reverence garnered second and third prizes.
