Eco faculty and students attend CECON National Conference

10th CECON National Conference delegates

The Council of Economics Educators (CECON)) together with the Philippine Council Of Economics Students (PhilCES) held its 10th CECON National Conference from November 23 to November 25, 2006 at the De La Salle-Lipa in Lipa City, Batangas. The theme of the conference was “Enhancing Local Government Competitiveness through Economics Education towards Global Integration”.  

The conference aimed to improve competitiveness of the local government units and bring about a more globally integrated approach to quality of teaching Economics in the tertiary level.

Bro. Manuel R. Pajarillo, the President of De La Salle-Lipa gave the welcome remarks and was followed by the opening remarks delivered by Dr. Ruben M. Nayve Jr., the Chairman Emeritus of CECON and the Chair of the Economics Department of St. Scholastica’s College. 

Mr. Filomeno Sta. Ana from the Synergia Foundation, gave the keynote address. In the two technical sessions that followed Mr. Celerino Endaya, the President of CLI Agro–Industrial Corporation discussed  “Promoting Globally Competitive LGUs: A Business Sector Perspective” and Dr. Corazon Abansi, Vice-President for Academics and Research, De La Salle-Lipa discussed “The Role of Economics Education towards Effective Local Governance”.  An open forum followed each technical session. The Master of Ceremony was Professor Lorrence Resureccion, the External Vice-President of St. Louis University. 

An educational tour of Lipa City took place on the second day. The participants visited the San Sebastian Cathedral, Carmel Church, Basilica of St. Martin de Tours, Hagdan-Hagdan (125 Steps), Doņa Marcella Agoncillo Historical Landmarks, Don Leon Apacible Historical Landmarks, Don Felipe/Don Gregorio Agoncillo, Casa Real/Municipal Building and the Community Park.  

The conference ended on the third day after the meeting of the regular member, officers and board of directors.
