DAUGHTERS TRUE: 100 YEARS OF SCHOLASTICAN EDUCATION 1906-2006,” the first book on the history and essence of St. Scholastica's College, was launched on Sunday, November 26 at the Social Hall of SSC.

Edited by alumnae Neni Sta. Romana Cruz, Paulynn Paredes Sicam, Ma. Ceres P. Doyo and Karina Bolasco, the book traces the development of the school from a simple house in Moriones, Tondo, which began on December 3, 1906 to the San Marcelino campus to its present site on Leon Guinto Street, formerly Pennsylvania.

More than a history book, it captures the essense of being Scholastican through the nostalgia essays contributed by over 60 alumnae from different decades.  The oldest surviving alumna, 100-year-old Caridad Morente Pineda and the youngest, Katleya Quijano, a 2006 graduate have written their campus

recollections.  Among the many other writers are former President Corazon Aquino, Cecilia Muñoz Palma, Anita Magsaysay Ho, National Artists Lucrecia Kasilag and Leonor Orosa Goquinco, Rosalinda Orosa, Sonia Pinto Ner, Vicky Quirino Delgado, Mila Magsaysay Valenzuela, Risa Hontiveros, Corito Fiel, Aida Sevilla Mendoza, Ma-an Hontiveros, Angela Stuart Santiago, Mitch Valdes, Lara Saguisag, Pia Hontiveros and Preciosa Soliven.

The book has a collection of vintage photos from private archives, many of which are seeing publication for the first time.  Book designer Lynett A. Villariba used duo tone and has highlighted the school's architectural details for her design.

Of particular interest in the book are the sections on the Kindergarten boys (Sister Gratia's Boys include Sen. Ramon Magsaysay, Jr.) who studied in the all-girls' school, the many pranks of the internas and the special fashion feature on the uniform showing Mercy Arrastia Tuason modelling vintage Marylike clothes and delightful fashion sketches of artist Larry Leviste of a Scholastican family.  Leviste's section is fittingly called, “The Way We Wore.”
