For a school known for its artist alumnae, should it be any wonder that its
faculty can (and should?) hold their own on the stage? With this in
mind, and for the 100th year of St. Scholastica’s College, the
High School Administration and Faculty presented Seasons of Love 2 last
November 17, 2006 at the St. Cecilia’s Hall.
The idea
of a Faculty Concert was born out of years of participation in the
High School Outreach fund raising concerts and the
numerous
stage presentations that are part of the regular academic
calendar. Thus, in 2002, Seasons of Love was born. (A

trivia: One performer of Seasons II was a student and part of the audience when Seasons I came out.) And, to make a long story short, some important people, considering the
significance of 2006 being the centennial year of our school, got it into
their heads to hold a second concert. But why ‘Seasons of Love?’
The title is borrowed from the most celebrated song of the Broadway musical,
RENT. For the members of the High School Faculty, it captures the sense of
community in the Unit:

Season of Hope Performers |

In
daylights, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee.
In inches, in
miles, in laughter, in strife. In 525,600 minutes,
How do you
measure a year in the life of friends?
How about
love? Measure in love. Seasons of Love.
Moreover,
the title also refers to the three seasons featured in
the concert: Faith, Hope and Charity. It is a trip through
the decades |
and the
pop culture within each. The Faith segment featured songs and dances from
the 60s and 70s, the Hope segment focused on the 80s and the Charity segment
finished up with the 90s. (The title is also a gentle pun indicating
which season a teacher belongs to depending on how ‘seasoned’ one is.)
Of course, the teacher within could not but help throw in lessons along with
the entertainment. Hence messages regarding the fulfillment of civic
duties, the protection of the environment, the struggle against poverty and
deepening one’s spirituality were to be found all throughout the
presentation.

With two shows that Friday, high school students, alumnae, some parents and
of course the performers’ friends (and significant others!) and
family were able to watch teachers display their other talents. One high
school alumna said, “We enjoyed every minute of it! It was fun watching the
teachers do the performances this time. It made me miss the school more. I
wanna go back to St.Scho!” - (K.R., HS 2006). A parent couple whose daughter is currently a Junior
watched the show, offered their congratulations and commented, “This
is a
great way to get to know the teachers well.” However,
probably the most delighted and |

the most surprised were the families of the teachers themselves with
one blurting out to her niece “Saan mo hinugot ‘yung talento mong ‘yon?” And another, while
hopping with joy, exclaimed to her daughter,
”Anak! Sumasayaw ka pala!”
