St'Sko, St'SMo Rin at 100!: High School Faculty Grand Reunion
"Once a Benedictine, always a Benedictine!" This is one statement that really struck me as I listened to Mrs. Marisyll Pengson, the former Coordinator of Student Activities and Services, as she shared with her co-Benedictine educators her beautiful and meaningful experiences as administrator and faculty member of the High School Unit. Listening to her, a graduate of Assumption College, made me even believe more strongly in the charism of the Benedictine Sisters in educating young women to be agents of social transformation. Just like her, who is also not a Scholastican and just like all the other Benedictine educators, I live and practice ora et labora.
The
sharing of Mrs. Pengson was only one of the highlights of the most recently
concluded Everyone was glad to see former High School Principals like Mrs. Juanita M. Medalla (1959-1974), Sr. Josefina G. Nepomuceno (1962-1965), Sr. Bernie Bernas, OSB, Ms. Myrna A. Abiog (1973-2005) and Sr. Michaela M. Manalang, OSB (1997-present), and Benedictine Sisters like Sr. Celine Saplala, OSB (1968-1970), Sr. Lumen Dungca, OSB (1982-1984), Sr. Virginia Ferino, OSB (1971-1974) and Sr. Angelica Leviste, OSB (present College President), who have planted excellence in the Scholastican education. Certificates of recognition were given to the former principals though it was unfortunate that Dr. Mary Ann Covarrubias, Sr. Frideswida Ick, OSB and Sr. Lucy Togle, OSB were not present during the occasion. Certificates of participation and centennial items were also given to all present. The event was one great opportunity to reminisce the past, to look back and recognize how St. Scholastica's College's High School Unit had been with all its pioneers. From where I am now, as a member of the faculty, looking at all those teachers, administrators and Benedictine Sisters who have contributed so much to what St. Scholastica's College High School Unit is now, I could not help but recognize what they had started . . . and live with and by the legacy that they continuously share with us. We were 97 in the hall ... 97 Benedictine educators who came together on November 18, 2006, not only to see each other but to rekindle the spirit, renew the "Benedictine" bond that once and forever will bind us together. We will continue to live with prayer and work . . . we will continue to work for and with excellence. . . now and in the next hundreds of years so THAT IN ALL THINGS GOD MAY BE GLORIFIED!
