SSC Student Council attends UCSC 16th Congress Last November 3-5, 2006, the Union of Catholic Student Council (UCSC) held its 16th Congress at MMLDC in Antipolo. The UCSC is composed of Student Councils from Catholic institutions in the Philippines. Student Council President Elizabeth Ann Reyes, Secretary-General Pauleen Ruiz, Fourth Year Batch Representative Lorie Beth Lim, and Third Year Batch Representative Dorothy Lyn Pillos participated in the said convention and served as representatives of St. Scholastica's College, Manila. The theme was "Making a Stand in the Threshold of Change." Among the speakers were: Kip Oebanda, a former UCSC Chair; Mrs. Fontenilla, the Secretary General of the Association of Catholic Universities of the Philippines; Mr. Chito Maniago, UCSC President 2004-2005; and Father Arman Robleza, SBD, a priest and also the previous Dean of Student Affairs of Don Bosco, Makati. Fr. Robleza talked about the national situation and how people from different sectors of societies react. Finally, Ms. Patricia Evangelista, University of the Philippines alumni and also a Y-speak co-host, shared some experiences of people being oppressed by the military. Indeed, all Student Councils were challenged to make a stand in the face of changes! |
