Someone described Mother Earth as a beautiful woman: surrounded by lush gardens, waterfalls, soft warm sunlight, cool fragrant breezes, trees and mountains. Today, however, Mother Earth is very tired. Her streams are dirty, her land is bare, her wildlife is dead and dying, her air filled with poisonous smoke and the stench of garbage. Her face is old, wrinkled and shattered. As Mother Earth looks down on her children, she sees many of us fighting, filled with anger, jealousy and contempt, armed with the capacity to destroy all life on earth and to make her uninhabitable for future generations. And yet today, there are others who are filled with hopes and dreams. People like you and me. We believe that we can go back to the first beauty of Mother Earth - as long as we hold hands together. As long as we begin today - one little step at a time. We as a small group of friends, we as community, in our workplaces, our classrooms, campus grounds, our homes ...
as long as we are ready to make sacrifices,
