The Guidance Department believes that every student is a unique individual whose needs and concerns must be met with individual attention and understanding. To assist each student to develop her capacity to the fullest, the students are encouraged to avail of the services rendered by the Guidance Department.
These services include the following:
a) Information Service – the dissemination of information through seminars, talks, individual or small group discussion, regarding personal, social, emotional and career concerns to provide students with developmental programs, varied opportunities and relevant information to enhance self-awareness, develop independence, build healthy and meaningful relationships, and be inspired to become productive members of the society.
b) Individual Inventory and Routine Interview Service – a process to get to know the needs of the students, these are also the collection and analysis of relevant information about them. Routine interview is conducted to develop rapport with the students, show them acceptance and establish open communication with them which encourage them to express themselves freely in identifying their needs, fears, and areas for professional help.
c) Counseling Service – the purposive interaction between student and counselor, individually or in groups where problems, concerns or difficulties are shared in confidence and where the counselor helps the student manage her/his own problems using her/his own resources. This provides appropriate professional help services for students various needs in the areas of academic, social, inter and intra-personal relationships, and guidance intervention on specific cases of students on voluntary or referrals and follow through most appropriately the bounds of ethical and legal principles.
d) Testing Service – the administration and interpretation of standardized psychological tests concerning ability, achievement, interest, personality, etc.
e) Research and Evaluation Service – wherein students’ needs, test results and other important data are studied for planning and program development. The conduct of follow-up studies, benchmarking studies and other relevant and need-based researches / investigations are important for continuous program and services assessment, monitoring and development. |
