ABS Registrars with SSC Vice-President for Academic Affairs, Sr. Mary Vincent Feliciano, OSB

With the theme, “Professionalizing the Services of the Registrar’s Office: A Challenge to School Registrars”, the Registrars of the Association of Benedictine Schools (ABS) came together for a one and a half day seminar workshop and roundtable discussion centering on the services of the office.

This gathering of the School Registrars, the first of its kind for ABS, was held on 11-12 January and hosted by St. Scholastica’s College, Manila.

The following topics were chosen based on common felt needs of registrars, here and abroad, and in the light of the office’s growing demands and challenges in this age of information technology:

v Office Management, Policies and Procedures: Key to Systematizing and Professionalizing
Office Services
v Office Requirements and “Deliverables”
v Legal Implications of Student Accounting
v De-bureaucratizing the Office of the School Registrar
v Latest Trends / Directions Towards Efficient Delivery of Services

Except for St. Scholastica’s College of Health and Sciences, Tacloban, the following member schools were represented by thirteen participants:

Sr. M. Celine Saplala, OSB, ABS Executive Director, gave the Welcome Remarks. Prayer for the day and ice breakers were handled by the participants. Seminar facilitator and resource speaker was Ma. Humildad F. Claro, SSC’s outgoing School Registrar.

Overwhelmed by the facilitator’s challenge to take an “extra mile” in their day-to-day operations in the office, the participants took home with them the wealth of the best and significant practices, not only of St. Scholastica’s College, Manila, but of all other ABS schools whose registrars re-affirmed their pledge to continue to be committed to the mission and thrust of the Registrar’s Office in the School of the Lord’s Service.
