The Women’s Colleges Sports Association (WCSA) Badminton Competition for
school employees’ category took its superb games on February 9 and 10, 2008
at the Assumption College of Makati. The participating schools, namely, Holy
Spirit, Miriam College, Philippine Women’s University, Assumption College
and St. Scholastica’s College, heated the game with an elimination round on
the first day. Our players, three from the P.E. College Department
(Ms. Encar Deveraturda, Ms. Gigi Cordova and Mr. Almario L. Quesada) and two
from Information Technology Office (Mr. Moises Nalumen and Mr. Randy
Bermundo), displayed their best as they faced tough fights, both for singles
and doubles. Our humble victory of the day was scented when the game
officials announced the only two top schools qualified for the championship
round: St. Scholastica’s College (SSC) and Miriam College (MC).
The finishing
matches on the second day were filled with excitement, challenge and screams
while the audiences cheered for their respective players. One amazing thing
about our players was their level of absolute zest to win. This eagerness
did not drop even when our points were behind MC’s. The tricky tactic of our
opponent pushed our splendid player, Quesada on his knees just to execute
the winning return against Miriam College. Though the game ended with Miriam
College bagging the champion’s trophy, and St. Scholastica’s College
garnering 1st runner-up, SSC proved a truly challenging opponent
for Miriam College. The SSC community members who watched the event were
heard saying, “our standing in badminton? … not bad!”
