The Association of Benedictine Schools (ABS) Second High School Faculty Sportsfest was held on February 15 and 16 at St. Scholastica’s Academy of Marikina  with the theme “Continuing Benedictine Excellence Through Sports.” The event started with the parade of participating schools in Luzon, namely: St. Scholastica’s College, Westgrove; St. Scholastica’s College, Manila; St. Scholastica’s Academy, Marikina (SSAM); St. Scholastica’s Academy, San Fernando, Pampanga (SSA SFP); and Holy Family Academy, Angeles City (HFA).

The participants were welcomed by Sr. M. Edna Quiambao, OSB, the ABS High School Commission Chair and Directress and High School Principal of SSAM. Sr. M. Celine Saplala, OSB, the ABS Executive Director and Directress of SSA-SFP, gave the Inspirational Talk. Sr. Michaela Manalang, OSB, the High School Principal of SSC, Manila declared the games open. The friendly competition started with the Cheer Dance Presentation and the Amazing Race. After lunch, the much awaited games began. Basketball, volleyball, badminton, chess and table tennis continued until the next day. It was not all sports, however, because the games were interspersed with Benedictine prayers like Lectio Divina, Vespers and Morning Praise. It was indeed, Ora et Labora for the faculty of the School of the Lord’s Service.

The event culminated with the awarding of certificates, medals and trophies to the athletes.  St. Scholastica’s College, Manila came first while Holy Family Academy in Angeles City and St. Scholastica’s College, Westgrove won second place and third place, respectively.  St. Scholastica’s Academy in San Fernando was fourth place and St. Scholastica’s Academy, Marikina took the fifth place.  This is the second time that SSC, Manila won first place.  The first was in school year 2005-2006.
