Ms. Louise Arnaldo, Coordinator for Student Activities and Services and English Grammar and Literature Coordinator Ms. Mary Ann Cruz flew to London on March 24 for a series of exploratory meetings with Emerson Park School (EPS) in Hornchurch, New Havering from March 25-30.

Ms. Arnaldo and Ms. Cruz, met with the officials, faculty and students of EPS and observed classes in order to establish possible linkages with this Sports College for the Dreams + Teams School Links Program.

Several activities have been lined-up as a result of these exploratory meetings. The activities include among others, sharing of best practices, student-exchange programs, teacher-exchange programs, cross-cultural awareness programs. A return visit to St. Scho by EPS officials has been scheduled on July 8-14, 2007.

The Dreams and Teams program seeks to develop global citizenship and cross-cultural awareness through sports leadership skills and the arts. In October 2006, the British Council chose St. Scholastica’s College, Makati Science High School and Makati High School as the pioneer schools for this program. A Local Tutors’ (teachers) training, conducted by Penny Crisfield of the Youth Sports Trust (UK), was held at the UP Hostel from October 21-24. This was followed by the Young Leaders’ Training on October 25-29. Ms. Malou Cura and Ms. Mary Ann Cruz were sent by the school to attend the Local Tutors’ Training while they, along with the other local tutors from the other schools gave the Young Leaders’ Training. Attendees from St. Scho to the Young Leaders’ Training were: Alexis Joson, Ara Roldan, Dominique Ramos, Criselda Tamondong, Alyssa dela Rosa, and Azalea Maduli.

These young leaders will now form the core of officers for the newly-established Dreams + Teams Club for the coming school year. As of this writing, the young leaders have been very busy preparing for the line-up of club activities.

On March 4-9, Alexis Joson and Donna Ventura (of Makati High School) chaperoned by Mrs. Malou Cura flew to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to represent the Dreams + Teams Philippines in the Asian Youth Forum, entitled Inspiring Young Leaders held at the  Grand Olympic Hotel. The young leaders designed a sports festival for more than a hundred Malaysian pupils. The local tutors updated themselves on the different school linkage activities and sought ways on how to sustain and improve these.

The Dreams and Teams club will open the school year with an Arts Festival on July 14, 2007 at the Kuniberta Hall. Students from the two other pioneer schools will also be participating in this festival. This activity will be part of the line-up of activities for the return visit of our UK link school.
