Pearl Mallada sank a jumper in the final six seconds as St. Scholatica’s College nipped Philippine Women’s University, 78-76, to retain the basketball championship in the 6th Women's Colleges Sports Association (WCSA) at the Assumption College gym over the weekend.

La Consolacion College Manila foiled a double celebration for the SSC Scions when the Blue Royals nailed the volleyball crown via a hard-earned 21-25, 17-25, 25-23, 25-11, 15-7 victory.

Deposed champion and host Assumption settled for second runner-up honors after stopping Miriam College, 25-18, 25-22, 25-23.

Mallada, who was named Most Valuble Player, finished with 19 points behind Shalimar Roxas who tossed a team-high 20 markers, including three triples in the first quarter.

PWU’s Shynel Villedo led all scorers with 33 points.

The league resumes on Feb. 9-10 with the badminton and swimming contests. Table tennis and futsal get its turn on Feb. 17 and 24. The cheerdancing, closing and turnover rites are scheduled on March 1.

All events will be held at the Assumption gym, except the table tennis tournament which will be played at the PWU gym.
