GSM  session

A three-day Gender Studies seminar for men was conducted for the male faculty members of the High School and Grade School Units last June 6-8, 2008 at the Ecology and Wholeness Farm in Mendez, Cavite. The activity was facilitated by well-trained and dedicated Prof. Archie Ligo, Prof. Becky Marquez, and Dr. Roberto Mendoza.

The teachers found the seminar very enriching. According to Mr. Cornelio Javier of the High School Unit, “It was a very good and enlightening experience to be able to discover ourselves.” Mr. Humphrey Chong, also from the HS Unit, agreed and added, “I got to realize things that I thought would never be possible.”

The seminar’s central focus was Gender Sensitivity which included Gender Construction in Education, Gender and Religion, Role of Media in Everyday Life, Basics of Sexuality, and Sexual Harassment in Educational Institution.

Mr. Ahmed Lucban of the High School Unit affirmed by saying that, “the Seminar has provided me with insights that would be essential in understanding myself better. Former questions about how I behave and other people behave were clarified.”

By its very nature, the seminar proved to be an eye-opener; as well as a heart-opener for the faculty to rediscover themselves in an exclusive-for-girls institution. After all, the activity was meant to enrich the knowledge of the male teachers by giving them the opportunity to learn about gender sensitivity.
