By Maricel Hortaleza
Sr. Edna is
not a neophyte in the education field. After completing her elementary and
high school education in her home province of Pampanga, she obtained her
Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education at the Philippine Normal College
in 1968. From June 1972 to April 30, 1979 she had been a grade school
faculty member of St. Scholastica’s Academy of her hometown San Fernando,
Pampanga. Subsequent years saw Sr. Edna assuming greater responsibility in the academe. She held the position of Grade School principal for St. Scholastica’s Academy of Pampanga for seven years from 1987 to 1994. Then she assumed the position of Directress/Superior of St. Agnes Academy in Legaspi City where she stayed from 1994 to 2000. When St. Scholastica’s College Westgrove in Silang Cavite was established in 2000, she became its first Directress/Principal of both High School and Grade School until 2006. During this period, Sr. Edna still found time to complete her Master of Arts in Education degree, Major in Planning at the Institute for Development of Educational Administrators at the Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro City. This was in May 2001. In 2006, while still with Westgrove (from 2005 to 2008), Sr. Edna held the position of High School Commissioner for the Association of Benedictine Schools (ABS). In the same year, Sr. Edna returned to St. Scholastica’s Academy Marikina; this time as the Directress/High School Principal. She stayed for two years in Marikina until she was tapped to assume her present position of Grade School Principal in St. Scholastica’s College, Manila in 2008. The school year, 2008-2009 is perceived to be a year of renewed challenge for the Grade School Unit. After passing accreditation by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU) last school year, the Grade School Unit will look toward a new leadership to continue its traditions of academic excellence, prayer and work. Indeed, it is a blessing that Sr. Edna has come into our midst. Welcome, Sr. Edna! Benedicite! |
