Mrs. Edith Burgos sharing the story behind the disappearance of her son, Jonas

A forum on truth, justice and accountability was held last July 11, 2008.  Students from the sixth grade, high school and college came to listen to the guest speakers, Mr. Jun Lozada and Mrs. Edith Burgos.

The first to speak was Mrs. Burgos.  She is known to be a courageous and strong-willed woman.  She is the mother of Jonas Burgos who has been missing for a long time now.  Mrs. Burgos narrated how her son was abducted.

While doing so, she could not help but shed some tears.  She also showed pictures of some of the actions that she and her supporters have taken as part of the "Free Jonas Movement."  Everyone was moved by her sharing.  All were inspired by her extraordinary courage and strength.

The next speaker was Mr. Jun Lozada.  He shared his thoughts on truth and justice.  He told us about the effects of his role by becoming the whistleblower of the ZTE-NBN deal on himself and his family.  He also told us about the many things that our corrupt leaders are doing behind our backs.  I found Mr. Lozada to be very sincere and honest.

An open forum followed.  I was glad to hear some of my fellow grade schoolers ask some serious questions.  I myself had asked Mrs. Burgos, "How do you feel about the slow action or reaction of the government towards the disappearance of your son?"  I also told her that I wish she would soon find her son.  Honestly, my knees were shaking when I asked her.  I stood there listening intently to Mrs. Burgos' response.  I was deeply touched by her.  She thanked me and even called me "little angel."  I know I will never forget this experience.
