St. Scholastica’s College, Manila
sent eight (8) students and one teacher as delegates to the
International Benedictine Youth Congress (IBYC) and the World Youth
Day (WYD) 2008 both held at Sydney,
Australia.Together with St. Scholastica’s Academy, Marikina, St. Scholastica’s Academy,
San Fernando, St. Scholastica’s College, Westgrove, HolyFamilyAcademy, Angeles and St.
Peter’s College, Ormoc, they formed the Association of Benedictine
Schools (ABS) Delegation.The group left on July 9, 2008 via Malaysia Airlines.
World Youth Day sharing during catechesis
The IBYC was held on July 10-13 at the Collaroy Centre where the
theme was “Dadiri”, which meant deep listening.They were joined by other Benedictine school from Africa,
London,
Chile, United States,
Germany
and Australia.The students were given the opportunity to choose the
workshops they would be attending so as to be able to interact with
the other students.
This gave them the chance to learn more about the different cultures
of the delegates.The
schedule was quite tight that everyone must attend the mass or
morning prayer at 6:30 a.m. and end the day with prayer at 10:00
p.m.
During the closing ceremonies, the majority of the schools presented
either a cultural performance or a video about their school.The ABS delegation showed a very good performance showcasing
the different cultural dances from Mindanao and
Luzon.
On July 14, 2008, the majority of the participants of the IBYC
trooped to St. Scholastica’s College, Glebe.This was the home of all the students and teachers while
attending the World Youth Day.

and Mass at St. Scholastica’s College, Glebe
Station of the Cross at the Domain
Day 5:Pilgrim
Walk to Randwick Racecourse from North Sydney
(approximately 11 kms.) Evening Vigil

Closing Mass celebrated by Pope Benedict XVI
Despite the very cold weather, no one among the SSC student
delegates got sick and that all the students were very fulfilled and
happy with the experiences they had during the IBYC and WYD.
The group left Sydney,
Australia via Malaysia
Airlines on July 21, 2008 and arrived in
Manila
on July 22.
