The glorious moment
“For every meeting, we were able to
rehearse only a page of the piece.” This was Isabel de Leon’s
reply when asked of how she felt as the Glee Club president,
regarding the 21-paged contest piece, Bagbagto.
With the difficult contest piece “
Bagbagto” coupled with a good roster of high school choirs
competing, the SSC High School Glee Club still emerged as the
champion for the much anticipated finals night of the 2008 CMLI
Voices in Harmony Choir Competition held last November 29, 2008 at
the Crossroad 77 Convenarium,
Quezon City. This victory caps the 10th
cycle of the competition organized by the Children’s Museum and
Library Inc. Junior Council Alumni Association in association with
the National Commission on Culture and the Arts. ![]() Glee, all smiles for their prize money
The Finals Night highlighted the ten (10)
competing high school choral groups which passed the elimination
round held last September 20, 2008 at the Philam Life Theatre.
The schools who made it to the finals were the Lourdes School
of Quezon City, St. James Academy Malabon, Colegio de San Juan de
Letran, St. Paul College Pasig, St. Paul College Parañaque,

Francisco Feliciano, Mr. John August Pamintuan, Ms. Maria Lourdes
Hermo, Mr. Ed Manguait and Ms. Anna Tabita Abeleda, all high caliber
composers and choir conductors recognized not just in the

class vocal training of Dr. Carl Elmore Facto managed to endure the
tedious late night rehearsals. Guest percussionists Michelle Yu and
Andrea Acevedo from the Kapatid Music Ministry also joined the group
to further complete the winning roster of the Glee Club.

When the SSC HS Glee Club performed on the
stage, the audience remained silent as the young ladies dazzled them
with “Muntik na Kitang Minahal” popularized by The Company, made
them laugh with “Tilianan” by Mr. John August Pamintuan and created
a lasting impact through “Bagbagto” composed by Mr. Nilo B. Alcala. Each performance reflected the dedication and eagerness of every
choir member giving the judges a hard time to decide on the ranking.
Suspense was felt during the break, interviews with choir
representatives and introduction of judges. Glee Club members bowed their
heads in silent prayer while the organizers announced the winners.
Third place went to Indeed, with this success, in all the Glee Club's future endeavors, God may be glorified!
