Last February 25 to March 01, 2009, forty-four (44) Grade 4 students together with Mrs. Elaine Rodriguez, Ms. Teresa Ortiz, Ms. Lilian Yambao, Mrs. Elizabeth Rebangcos, Ms. Vilma Austria, and Sr. Eugene Amar, OSB joined this year’s Bicol Trip.

The trip started on Ash Wednesday with a mass held at the school chapel.  Fr. Ephraim Molina, OSB and Sr. Edna Quiambao, OSB blessed all of the travelers for a safe journey.  It took around thirteen hours to reach Bethlehem, the house of Bread in Bacacay, Albay where the faculty and students stayed during the entire trip.

Next day, the travelers had a special tour of SSC Manila’s sister school-St. Agnes Academy in Legazpi.  Here, the students met a lot of new friends.  While interacting with the Agnesians, the Manila-based Kulasas noted that the Agnesians were also very active and talented just like them.  After that quick tour, the visitors had their picture taking and bid their goodbyes. They were also very glad that they met Mayor Noel Rosal, mayor of Legazpi, Bishop Jose Sora, Bishop Emeritus of Legazpi City and Bishop Lucilo Quiambao, Diocese of Legazpi.

When Friday came, the students and faculty went to Cagsawa Ruins, Daraga Church, Albay Parks and Wildlife, Mayon Volcano and the Busay Falls.  The exhausting part yet was so memorable was the trekking at Ligñon Hill. The students and faculty also went to the Tiwi Geothermal Plant and the Tiwi Church. After that each one had a hearty treat of a cup of Halu-halo. Then they went to Tiwi Philippine Ceramics, Tabaco Church, Bolo Making-Boncacas Cutlery and Morin’s Handicrafts.  After which, they went straight to Malilipot for the bag making experience and were able to interact and interview some of the workers in the different outlets they went to.  Shopping was also great.

The entire trip was indeed informative. The students learned about the legend of Daragang Magayon and the famous epic Ibalong. They even learned some Bicolano words: Mabalos-thank you, marhay na aga-good morning, pangonoron-clouds, and magayon which means beautiful. It’s a cinch that nobody ever regretted going on this trip because it was extremely and amazingly fun. We, the writers would say that, this is a trip that nobody should miss.

What was truly accomplished was the friendship gained during the trip that will always stay in the hearts of both students and faculty.
