| Grade School celebrates Creation Day with a theme, "A Livable Environment for our Children"
Lifted from the circular made by Sr. M. Edna Quiambao,
OSB, SSC Grade School Principal ![]() Last September 1, 2009, St. Scholastica's College's Grade School unit joined the different parishes, schools and universities and all Christian churches in many parts of the world in celebrating Creation Day that will commence from September 1 to October 13, 2009 (Indigenous Peoples Sunday). The unit also set the period from September 1 to October 4 (the Feastday of St. Francis of Assisi) or the Sunday after October 4 as "Creation Time". This is the period when the Scholastican community acknowledges "Creation", as a priceless gift of the Almighty and Loving Creator who made every human being according to His own image and likeness. All activities for the month of September will be geared to honor through words and deeds, action and contemplation, special creation liturgies, environmental activities, and care for creation programs. The six-week period called Time for Creation will have activities that will focus on the God the Father, our Divine Creator, God the Son, our Divine Redeemer, and God the Holy Spirit, Divine Sustainer of all Life and all Creation. On September 1, the unit also commemorated the 20th death anniversary of the late Ecumenical Patriarch Dimitrio I who declared September 1 as a Day of Prayer for Creation. The theme for this year's Day of Prayer for Creation and a Time for Creation 2009 is "A Livable Environment for Us and the Future Generations." The theme will be discussed in particular in Science, Social Studies and Christian Doctrine classes, which will help the children understand the causes and dynamics of climate change and its implications and effects particularly on the younger ones. Other goals of the activity include understanding of the information we need to know and can do to keep the level of temperature rise as low as possible and what kind of adaptation measures we need to prepare for. The unit also informed the community about the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 15) to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark from December 7-18, 2009, which will be a major milestone in the global negotiations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and work out a global deal on climate change.
