| SSC SAC Staff at the 10th NSTP Congress May 2-4, 2012
Bohol Island State University
St. Scholastica’s College (SSC) participated in the 10th National Service Training Program (NSTP) CONGRESS OF EDUCATORS AND IMPLEMENTERS held at the Bohol Island State University (BISU), Tagbilaran City last May 2- 4, 2012. Represented by SSC’s NSTP facilitators, Ms. Juanita Arrosa and Ms. Melanie Abo, Registered Social Worker (RSW) of the Social Action Center, the three day gathering centered on the theme: NSTP: Celebrating a Decade of Service and Dedication to the Filipino Nation. The assembly underscored the decade of the implementation of the NSTP Law (R.A 9163), at the same time commended the Philippine Society of NSTP Implementers and Educators (PSNEI) who had been working hand in hand with the NSTP since the beginning, The NSTP Assembly discussed relevant issues and concerns like: the House Bills 737 (Rep. Gullas), 2488 (Rep. Biazon), 3968 (Rep. Alcover) and 3980 (Rep. Aumentado) that seek to reinstate the mandatory ROTC for all tertiary students enrolled in all private and public universities, colleges and learning institutions. The Assembly also discussed, Kabataan Party-List Rep. Raymond Palatino’s House Bill No. 2355 that proposes to strengthen the social civic components of the current NSTP instead of abolishing it. The main aims of the bill, as proposed, are to inculcate nationalism and responsibility in the youth and to assist government agencies in the delivery of basic social services to the people. Another concern aired was the subject of the full implementation of K+12, which according to Rep. Palatino, may take place within the coming three to four years. The Department of Education is preparing the new curriculum to be ready for implementation for the public as well as for private institutions. A very enriching feature of the gathering was the sharing the best NSTP practices by selected schools, namely: Bohol Island State University, Marinduque State University, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig, and Laguna State Polytechnic University.
