SSC President's Orientation 2011
By Helen D. Tan, Office of the President
Posted: Friday, July 22, 2011

SSC's new President, Sr. Mary Thomas Prado, OSB started the school year 2011-2012 with the traditional orientation on the school's theme to the whole SSC community so all will be one to work towards one direction in the attainment of the mission and vision of the school.

SSC President, Sr. Mary Thomas Prado, OSB

SSC, being a Benedictine School, is anchored on the 10 hallmarks of Benedictine Education and this year, the focused hallmark is Service. Likewise, Sr. Mary Thomas Prado, OSB focused only on leadership in the school theme for this school year — "Leaders in the Service of Christ, Country and Creation". SSC continues to be the leader not only among the Benedictine Schools but also among the best schools in the country by producing leaders who excel in their own fields of endeavor. Notable of all is the country's first female president, President Ma. Corazon Cojuangco Aquino.

The SSC theme in a nutshell:

  • Leadership is about being a Servant-Leader in our own right after the examples of Christ.

  • Being a leader is to find in our hearts the good to serve others.

  • Leadership is not all about power. It has its cost. It is about Service. Service many times to the point of " dying to self " for the common good of all.

  • Leadership entails responsibility, accountability and the ability to see beyond the surface and touch deep into the hearts of those around them.

  • Leadership is embracing uncertainty and is a paradox in many ways. It is being an example of taking action in the playing field to realize the plan but at the same time withdrawing from the field to have a clearer and full view of the whole picture. It is also getting connected with people yet putting premium time for solitary moments to assess the situation.

  • Leadership is not value-free. It needs to have clarity of beliefs, stamina, persistence and self- regulation.

  • The job of leaders is to create more leaders.

  • Leadership need not be grand; it can be little steps that we take to make the difference in our place and our surroundings. It is the love of Christ through service to our neighbors to make our community a better place to live in not only for ourselves but for others.

Sr. Mary Thomas Prado, OSB also oriented the faculty and staff on SSC's direction for a better understanding of what is expected for the future of SSC as an institution of excellence and how we can achieve those ideals.

Sr. Mary Thomas Prado, OSB delivered her talks on the following dates.
