Grade School and High School First Research Forum held

"Conducting research may be time consuming and "energy-sucking" but the fruit and the benefit that we can get from it is always rewarding".

These were the words of Prof. Fornias, OIC, VPAA during the first research forum for the Basic Education Level held on November 14, 2011 at the High School Unit’s Audio-Visual Room. The studies presented were the classroom-based researches in Math and Science commissioned by Sr. Mary Thomas C. Prado, OSB in 2010 to the faculty members of the Grade School and High School Units, when she was then the Vice-President for Academic Affairs.

For the Grade School Unit, the presenters were Ms. Rosalie Emaas and Ms. Sarah Jean Tiangco on “An Assessment of the Math Competencies among the 6th Grade Students (AY 2010-2011) of SSC, Manila”; Ms. Julita Santos, Ms. Isabel Ranella Diaz and Ms. Toni Elaine Emala on “The Profile of 6th Grade Students’ Performance on the Different Areas of Science.”

For the High School Unit, the presenters were Ms. Veronica Saddul and Mr. Samuel Bautista on the “Analysis on Mathematics Entrance Competencies of Year I Students SY 2010-2011”; Ms. Sheryl Sombilon and Mr. Armand Anthony Galicia on the “Performance of 1st Year Students in the Pre and Post Tests of the General Science Diagnostic Exam.”

The said classroom-based researches received commendation from the audience with their recommendations affirmed by those present and were promised support specifically by Prof. Corazon Huvalla, the Institutional Director of the Guidance Department and Ms. Cecile Alvarez, the Admission Officer. Prof. Elisa Limson, IRAD Assistant Director, who guided the authors all throughout the process, was also very happy and proud with the output of the group and with the result of the forum.

The forum was attended by the School President, Sr. Mary Thomas C. Prado, OSB, the principal of the Grade School Unit, Sr. Edna Quiambao, OSB, IRAD Director, Prof. Marcelino Macapinlac, Jr., IRAD Asst. Director, Prof. Elisa Limson, Institutional Guidance Director, Mrs. Corazon Huvalla, ISEC Director Ms. Teodora Salubayba, the Assistant Principals of both Units, Mrs. Imelda Garcia and Mrs. Malou Cura, Grade School Unit’s Coordinator of Student Services and Formation, Mrs. Ida Lingad, and the Math and Science Area Coordinators, and the Math and Science teachers of both units.
