High School Faculty attends seminar on "SSC The Art of Questioning"
by:Ms. Laarni P. Lumabas, High School Faculty

The Faculty intently listens as Mrs. Villagomez delivers her talk on The Art of Questioning. The workshop-seminar was capped off with the presentations by the different subject areas.

The 21st of May, 2012 marks the second week of the In-Service Training for St. Scholastica's College, Manila High School (HS) Unit. However, since most of the HS faculty members were in Davao from Tuesday to Friday of the previous week for their retreat and cultural outing, the training program had just commenced. To kick-off the series of seminars comprising the training for teachers for school year 2012-2013; the Board of Coordinators (BOC) invited Ms. Juanita "Janet" Villagomez as facilitator for The Art of Questioning.

According to Ms. Villagonez or "Janet" (as she prefers to be called), teachers must be able to ask the proper questions at the proper time so that students would not merely be able to answer them properly but, more importantly, that they themselves would be able to pose queries worthy to be responded to. Further, Ms. Janet mentioned that while it is notable to teach our students the details of the lesson, it is equally significant that they also learn what to ask and how to ask so that learning becomes more meaningful to them. However, she makes it clear that for the students to be able to acquire this skill in questioning, they must first be exposed to people who can model it correctly and whom they can emulate eventually. At this, Ms. Janet points out that the teachers are the ones who can best carry out the task.

In summary, the seminar served as a reminder for the teacher-participants about their crucial role in ensuring that the students achieve optimum learning through well-delivered instruction; a critical part of which is the art of effective questioning,
