| IRAD Sponsors Research Forum Part 1 "Research is formalized curiosity. It is poking and prying with a purpose." Zora Neale Hurston, American folklorist and Writer, 1903-1960 ![]() The Institutional Research and Academic Development (IRAD) Office sponsored a research forum, first in the series of two (2) last July 16, 2012, from 1:30-4:30pm at the President's Function Room B, St. Cecilia's Building. The second part of the forum will be held on December 2012. A part of the school tradition, the research forum highlights the scholarly works of faculty members. The opening prayer was led by Ms. Cielo Borja, IRAD Office Staff. This was followed by the singing of the national anthem. Dr. Remedios Ching, the Dean of College, delivered the opening remarks. She stated that research is the "output that we should pay attention to." Also, she added the need of the faculty to "stay relevant" in providing "accurate, reliable data." She commended IRAD for the research clusters, workshops, etc. She was pleased to mention that the research outputs of some of the faculty members are internationally-acclaimed. Prof. Marcelino Macapinlac, Jr., IRAD Director, introduced all the speakers during that afternoon. The forum showcased the three (3) paper presentations: 1. "What College Faculty Climate Assessment reveals about the Rewards and Challenges of the Profession and Its Relationship to Spirituality" by Dr. Angelina Gutierrez; 2. "L' Ecriture Proletarienne ? Subjectivities and Resistance in the Testimonial Narratives of Workers (2001-2010)" by Prof. Noel Christian Moratilla; and 3. "The Assessment of the Importance and Deficiencies in Research Skills Among College Students" by Prof. Elisa Limson, Prof. Froilyn Lunaria, Prof. Mary Joy Rosales-Orante and Dr. Maria Victoria Trinidad. Dr. Trinidad was not able to attend the forum because she was currently on leave. Each paper presentation was followed by an open forum. Questions raised were focused on the authors' research method, framework, statistical analysis and feasibility of the recommendations. Some members of the audience likewise gave their comments and recommendations to further enrich the research outputs. The awarding of certificates and tokens of appreciation followed. Dr. Remedios Ching and the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Prof. Virginia Fornias, handed the certificates and tokens to the presenters. The closing remarks was delivered by Prof. Virginia Fornias. She reiterated what Dean Ching mentioned about research as an output that every educator should get into. She added that the "beauty" of research is the "opportunity to learn more." She commended IRAD for conducting the forum and also congratulated all the presenters. The research forum was hosted by Prof. Rommel Maglaya, a faculty member from the School of Business. PHOTO GALLERY:
