Scholastican Leaders’ Assembly

Former President Corazon C. Aquino giving insights on Scholastican leadership

The Second Scholastican Leaders’ Assembly (SLA) was held last December 9, 2005 at the
Sr. Kuniberta Hall with the theme “Defining the Scholastican Leader” focusing on accountability as a Benedictine value defined in the Rule of
St. Benedict.

Participants from the three units (Grade School, High School and College) gathered together to listen to the talk of Scholastican alumna, former President Corazon C. Aquino.  SSC President Sister Angelica Leviste, OSB introduced the guest speaker.  Mrs. Aquino’s speech was centered on “Defining Scholastican Leadership.”  She mentioned some Scholasticans who embodied this kind of leadership notably the late Justice Cecilia Muñoz-Palma and Clarissa Ocampo (see full text of Mrs. Aquino’s speech).  An open forum followed her speech and students from the

three units asked very interesting questions that Mrs. Aquino enjoyed answering.

During the afternoon session, former Scholastican leaders gave testimonials on their campus experiences.  College Student Council Presidents Ms. Wilhelmina Pangan, (Batch 1994) and Ms. Mier Mariko Matsunaga (Batch 2000) inspired the students with their testimonies.  They also entertained questions during the open forum.

Highlight of the activity was the teambuilding session where student leaders exchanged insights, learnings, strategies and best practices.  Aside from the serious discussions, the student leaders also had fun participating in the different games and tasks.  Ms. Kunny Dans, Secretary General and Ms. Margaux Umali, Student Organization Chairperson of the College Student Council facilitated the gathering of reflections and sharing of insights.  The Pledge of Commitment was led by the units’ student representatives.

The Second SLA became another opportunity for the student leaders of SSC to gain valuable new knowledge and meet new friends as well.  The experience made the participants united as one community – sharing the goal of living the values taught by the school through the years.

The event was sponsored by the Student Council, in partnership with the Student Affairs Office, as part of the
“St. Scho, School ko ‘to” project during the celebration of the school’s centennial.
