For the past five years, the Grade
5 students of SSC have interacted with the Persons With Disabilities (PWD) of Pinoy May K (Pilipinong May Kapansanan) Foundation.  The institution is a non-profit, non-government organization dedicated to seeking opportunities to enhance the lives of PWD’s.  It also aims to develop self-reliance and self-advancement among its members.

Through similar outreach activities, the participants were able to experience a sense of community and

belongingness.  Last November 14, 2005, the Grade School unit invited twenty-eight (28) PWD’s, twenty-six (26) parent volunteers and staff of Pinoy May K.  Ms. Sony Tensuan, Head of Pinoy May K, gave an overview of the foundation and introduced to the students their guests.  Afterwards, the PWD’s were clustered and the Grade 5 students joined them during the interaction.  The students prepared snacks and shared their food joyfully with their new found friends.  There were also fun games played by both groups and prizes were awarded to winning participants.  This was followed by a showcase of talents through songs and dances performed by both groups.

Last December 11, 2005, the Grade 5 students continued bringing joy to their friends at Pinoy May K through gift-giving.  The students personally took part in packing goods which included grocery items, clothes and toiletries.

The activity was truly a fun-filled experience to the unit especially for the Grade 5 students, who, in their own little way, live the true meaning of social responsibility and the value of sharing one’s time and material wealth to others. n
