Last September 13, 2005, the College Student Council (SC) and the Political Science Society (POLIS) held a forum at St. Ehrentrudis Hall entitled “In Retrospect: The GMA Impeachment Case” with invited guest speakers Honorable Teodoro “Teddy” Casiño of BAYAN MUNA Party List, Honorable Rissa Hontiveros-Baraquel of AKBAYAN Party List and Bro. Armin Luistro, FSC, President of De La Salle University.

Congressman Teddy Casiño gave an overview of the series of events that took place before and after the

filing of the impeachment complaint.  He emphasized that the impeachment process is constitutional and this process was a parallel effort to the calls for Mrs. Arroyo to step down from office.

Representative Rissa Hontiveros-Baraquel discussed the balance of forces in the House of Representatives.  She further stated that what is happening to our country now is a multi-faceted crisis and the roots are structural.

Finally, Bro. Armin Luistro talked about the moral aspect of the issue.  He challenged the Scholasticans to take a courageous stand and respond to the present crisis.  He dared the students to uphold integrity, honesty and moral values.

With the impeachment case “thrown out” by the House, the decision is now up to the people.  The supreme parliament is the parliament of the streets as Edsa 1 and Edsa 2 have showed. n
