School of Music holds prayer camp and music quiz
by J. Greg Zuniega

As part of the SSC centennial activities, a Prayer Camp entitled "Growing the Benedictine Way," was conducted by the School of Music.  Students from all levels stayed overnight from Oct. 1-2, 2005 for self reflection, listening to inspirational talks and bit of camaraderie.

The Mass opened the line-up of activities for the event with
Fr. Anselm Manalastas, OSB giving a homily on the essence of the liturgy,

with the musician-students playing their part in setting the mood for the celebrations with their voices and instruments.  This was followed by a "Pasasalamat sa Pamamagitan ng Awit," a lighthearted expression of gratitude in song, offered by the students to the ever loyal and dedicated manongs and manangs of the department.  SSC President Sr.Angelica Leviste, OSB, was then called on to give a summary of the life of  St. Benedict and the values that Benedictine students need to espouse in their lives.

With the intent of fostering closeness among the students, a time for fun was also devoted in the form of games, some of which highlighted the participants' musical creativity, and of mastering Benedictine songs with actions.  As the activities neared 3:00 in the morning, music faculty member Ms. Nelia Mitra gave her personal insights on the Rosary, while Sisters Agnella Capili, OSB and Angeline Arceo, OSB led the prayers and gave the students a first-hand account of the lauds, which marked the start of a new day.
