A Lecture Series covering the theme “Revisiting the Social Thrust of SSC” of “St. Scho, School ko ‘to” project was recently re-launched by the Student Council in cooperation with the Student Affairs Office last September 9, 2005 at the Sr. Caridad Barrion Hall.  The topic discussed was “Ecological Crisis” with Sr. Aida Velasquez, OSB as resource speaker.

To contextualize the lectures, Sr. Mary Vincent Feliciano, OSB, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, gave the students an overview of the school’s thrust.  She stressed that Scholastican Education is committed to Social Transformation and as a socially-oriented school; she believes that Scholasticans should be aware of what is happening to society and the environment.  She challenged the students to be agents of change and active contributors in the preservation and protection of the environment.

The lecture ended with the closing remarks of Ms. Katleya Quijano, External Vice-President of the Student Council.  Other topics lined-up for the Lecture Series are “Gender Inequality” and “Economic Justice” to be held during the second semester of this school year.  Invited resource speakers are Mother Prioress Mary John Mananzan, OSB and AKBAYAN Party List Representative Rissa Hontiveros-Baraquel. n
