The College
Science Department, in cooperation with the Social Action Center,
School Clinic and the Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) Club,
had its first Centennial Peace Offering, a medical-dental mission
outreach to the less privileged families of Barangay 850, Dapo Street, Pandacan, Manila last
December 6, 2005. The college faculty, laboratory staff and
officers of HRM Club went to the area and offered their time,
gifts, potentials and expertise. BS Biology third year students, HRM
student volunteers and the Community Organizers of the Social
Action Center assisted them.
The Medical-Dental
Activity started at 8:30 in the morning with an introduction given by
Sister Agnes Cerina, OSB, Director of the Social Action Center,
followed by a short prayer led by Sister Roselita Geronimo, OSB.
Ms. Salve Dorado,
Ms. Rhoda Tayag, Ma. Anne Viña and Ms. Joanne Miranda assisted at
least 240 new and old registrants. The Laboratory Team was composed
of Ms. Yvette Bering, Mr. Thaddeus Carvajal and two BS Biology 3
students. The Community Organizers from Barangay 850 and two BS
Biology 3 students checked the blood pressure and weight profile of
patients.
The Medical Team
was composed of Dr. Reynaldo Floresca and Dr. Madeleine Buraga who
examined the teenagers and elderly patients. Dr. Celine Evidente and
Dr. Nikki Cotoco, a volunteer friend of Dr. Evidente attended to the
children.
Mr. Antonio Santos and Ms. Amie Verano assisted Dr. Miriam Go, a
licensed practicing dentist, in administering dental treatments.
The distribution
and systematic sorting out of medicines were facilitated by the
Pharmacy Team composed of Ms. Tessie Religioso, Dr. Del Navaza, Ms.
Mary Ann Trinidad, Ms. Heidi Cenabre and BSBio 3 students. The
medicines were donated by Dr. Evidente, Dr. Carvajal, Dr. Buraga,
Social Action Center, school clinic, friends of the College Science
faculty and drug companies like Boehringen, Wyeth Philippines,
Natrapharm, Pascual Laboratories and ACS Corporation.
The HRM Club
officers headed by Ms. Khay, laboratory staff, Ms. Bella Rabe,
Sr. Esperanza Alcazar, OSB and community volunteers served apples,
oranges, hot arroz caldo and Milo chocolate drink to the barangay
residents. Mr. Manuel Cañete, General Service Personnel, also
assisted in the distribution of food and transport of needed tools and
materials. The medical-dental mission ended with raffle draws of
grocery items donated by benefactors, Science faculty and friends.
The Peace Offering,
as part of the Health and Healing Ministry, helped create in the
community healthy families, thus, increases the faith-life of the
community. This mission inspired the community in Barangay 850 and
served as a source of joy for the volunteers who offered their special
gifts in God’s mission ministry.
With grateful
hearts, the Team would like to thank God, Sts. Benedict and
Scholastica for this experience of selfless giving and sharing of
material and spiritual gifts to our less privileged brothers and
sisters. The group would also like to thank the school administration
for its support for this project, the volunteers, faculty and staff,
benefactors and friends, who in their participation made this
wonderful experience a truly a job well-done for the honor and
glory of God.
