The College Science Department, in cooperation with the Social Action Center, School Clinic and the Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) Club, had its first Centennial Peace Offering, a medical-dental mission outreach to the less privileged families of Barangay 850, Dapo Street, Pandacan, Manila last December 6, 2005.  The college faculty, laboratory staff and officers of HRM Club went to the area and offered their time, gifts, potentials and expertise.  BS Biology third year students, HRM student volunteers and the Community Organizers of the Social Action Center assisted them.

The Medical-Dental Activity started at 8:30 in the morning with an introduction given by Sister Agnes Cerina, OSB, Director of the Social Action Center, followed by a short prayer led by Sister Roselita Geronimo, OSB.

Ms. Salve Dorado, Ms. Rhoda Tayag, Ma. Anne Viña and Ms. Joanne Miranda assisted at least 240 new and old registrants.  The Laboratory Team was composed of Ms. Yvette Bering, Mr. Thaddeus Carvajal and two BS Biology 3 students.  The Community Organizers from Barangay 850 and two BS Biology 3 students checked the blood pressure and weight profile of patients.

The Medical Team was composed of Dr. Reynaldo Floresca and Dr. Madeleine Buraga who examined the teenagers and elderly patients.  Dr. Celine Evidente and Dr. Nikki Cotoco, a volunteer friend of Dr. Evidente attended to the children.
Mr. Antonio Santos and Ms. Amie Verano assisted Dr. Miriam Go, a licensed practicing dentist, in administering dental treatments.

The distribution and systematic sorting out of medicines were facilitated by the Pharmacy Team composed of Ms. Tessie Religioso, Dr. Del Navaza, Ms. Mary Ann Trinidad, Ms. Heidi Cenabre and BSBio 3 students.  The medicines were donated by Dr. Evidente, Dr. Carvajal, Dr. Buraga, Social Action Center, school clinic, friends of the College Science faculty and drug companies like Boehringen, Wyeth Philippines, Natrapharm, Pascual Laboratories and ACS Corporation.

The HRM Club officers headed by Ms. Khay, laboratory staff, Ms. Bella Rabe,
Sr. Esperanza Alcazar, OSB and community volunteers served apples, oranges, hot arroz caldo and Milo chocolate drink to the barangay residents.  Mr. Manuel Cañete, General Service Personnel, also assisted in the distribution of food and transport of needed tools and materials.  The medical-dental mission ended with raffle draws of grocery items donated by benefactors, Science faculty and friends.

The Peace Offering, as part of the Health and Healing Ministry, helped create in the community healthy families, thus, increases the faith-life of the community.  This mission inspired the community in Barangay 850 and served as a source of joy for the volunteers who offered their special gifts in God’s mission ministry.

With grateful hearts, the Team would like to thank God, Sts. Benedict and Scholastica for this experience of selfless giving and sharing of material and spiritual gifts to our less privileged brothers and sisters.  The group would also like to thank the school administration for its support for this project, the volunteers, faculty and staff, benefactors and friends, who in their participation made this wonderful experience a truly a job well-done for the honor and glory of God.

“It was God who revealed Himself as the One
who delights in the good, who loves and who gives.”
