On December 5, 2004, Haribon Foundation conducted an event entitled the Wild Manila Adventure Race Year 2 and Bike Caravan 2004 with a theme “Protecting Nature, Preserving Life.”  The objective of the race is to promote environment preservation and protection and to continue the campaign to support the advocacy of the group.

Ms. Anne Ria Infante and
Ms. Liberty Torroy, both members of the SSC Environment Society (EnviSoc),
participated in the activities prepared by the Haribon

Foundation.  To complete the required team of four (4) [3 boys and 1 girl], SSC tied up with San Beda Mountaineering Society (SBMS).  The team named their group Ora et Labora in keeping with the thrust of the two Benedictine schools.

The event caters to all environmentalist groups that take to heart challenges for the cause of environmental awareness.  At the start of the race, briefing and mechanics of the competition were given by Haribon and Cycler’s Advocates (CYCAD).  The race route began at Quezon City Memorial Circle and ended up at the Makati Park.  The participants passed different locations which are known for their fresh green sceneries including UP Diliman, Ateneo de Manila, Marikina Riverbank, La Mesa Dam, Fairview, Wild Life Manila Center, Arroceros Park, Luneta, Manila Film Center, Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig, Orchidarium and the last leg of the race, Makati Park.  Every green area had certain challenge such as finding the scientific name of birds, orchids and trees, solving puzzles of pictures of birds and answering environment trivias.  The race took about 12 hours of biking including stop overs to complete the different challenges.

With the success of this endeavor, Haribon Foundation is now looking forward to the participation of SSC EnviSoc next year.  The activity served as a driving force for the participants to continue their crusade for environmental awareness and protection. n
