"The Whiz Kids Through Fitness" project
by Ida Grace S. Baylon
Grade School Science Coordinator

The "Whiz Kids Through Fitness Project" is a program to promote healthy lifestyle among school children through nutrition lessons and physical activities.  The goal of the project is to develop children who are physically and mentally fit, free from overweight and obesity, through healthy lifestyle practices.  More specifically, the project will impart to the children important nutrition messages in the classroom and at the same time integrate physical activities and exercises into the activities of the children in and outside the classroom.  St. Scholastica's College, Manila is the first school in the Philippines to adopt this project

in coordination with the Philippine Association for the Study of Overweight and Obesity (PASOO).

This school year, we launched this project simultaneous with the celebration of the Children's Peace Day of the Grade School unit on October 25, 2004, highlighted by a Free Milk Drinking for all the grade school pupils and teachers.  The Free-Milk Drinking Day will be a once-a-month activity for the grade school. n
