SC Core attends an LTS at the Hilltop
by Melissa Sayoc
President, High School Student Council

On November 22-23, 2004 five (5) officers of the High School Student Council attended an overnight Leadership Training Seminar (LTS) at the Hilltop Residence in Quezon City.  The participants of the LTS were Mel Sayoc, SC President, Rina Araneta, SC Vice President, Punky Villamor, SC Secretary, Pin Calacal, SC Club Coordinating Chairperson and Cheng Magpoc, SC Outreach Student Coordinator. TAHILAN Residence and Study Center sponsored the seminar.

Fun-filled activities and lectures were included in the seminar.  The theme of the seminar was “Personal Excellence through Leadership and Volunteerism.”  Day 1 was basically full of self-discovery and getting-to-know-you activities.  Speakers were invited to talk on topics that would enlighten the participants to become better student leaders.  The speakers discussed the students’ role in society, how to build society and leadership qualities. Physical and intellectual challenges accompanied the discussion of these topics.  The participants had fun bonding experiences with other students from other schools and at the same time learning new knowledge about leadership.  During dinnertime, the participants were given free time to swim in the pool. The SC Core truly enjoyed this very relaxing experience.

The seminar enlightened the participants on how to be better leaders. It served as a venue for students to meet other people and discover their true personalities.  Leadership is an exercise in learning and growing, and every person, as a valuable human resource, has the potential to lead.  By taking advantage of this wonderful opportunity to participate in the seminar, students will learn how to realize their own potential as leaders. n
